Research area

Pei-Yu’s research interests lie at the intersection of explainable machine learning, urban informatics, and circular construction. She studied Architecture at National Cheng Kung University and TU Munich, and earned a Master’s degree in Design and Construction Management from Chalmers University of Technology. She later pursued an industrial PhD in Building Physics at Lund University with support from the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, where she continued as a researcher.

In her doctoral dissertation and related projects, Pei-Yu has focused on interdisciplinary topics in building sustainability, developing predictive models for hazardous materials, indoor radon, and moisture damage in the Swedish building stock. Beyond her academic work, she actively engages in international, cross-sector collaborations and funding initiatives.

Pei-Yu is a postdoctoral fellow at the ETH AI Center, jointly affiliated with the Chair of Interactive Visualization & Intelligence Augmentation (IVIA) and the Chair of Circular Engineering for Architecture (CEA). Her current research focuses on exploring multimodal learning to predict the lifecycle of building materials, with the goal of optimizing material reuse in urban development. This work contributes to the SWIRCULAR project (Swiss Digital Circular Construction Ecosystem), which aims to develop a building inventory tool, digital product passports, and a matchmaking platform for reclaimed materials.
