Congratulations to Dr. Byers on successfully completing his PhD defense

PhD student Brandon Byers has earned his doctorate with research on "Circular Construction Supply Chains: Implementing Decentralized Building Product Passports for Tracking and Tracing Reused Materials".

Brandon's Defence

The construction industry's linear model of resource consumption and waste generation has generated a need for more sustainable practices, motivating this dissertation's exploration of reusing building components through innovative product passports and decentralized technologies. Employing a multi-method pragmatist research approach involving expert surveys, interviews, case study prototypes, and quantitative experiments, Brandon's research investigates strategies for enhancing information transparency in circular construction supply chains. The findings are particularly significant for emerging European Union regulations on digital product passports and industry efforts to develop material passports for improved transparency and accounting. By providing a foundation for integrating digital tools in circular economy practices, this research aims to reduce construction waste and embodied emissions, ultimately driving the built environment toward a more sustainable and reusable model.
